1A ranking rep
Cody SwimSWI-35cswim@i-35.k12.ia.usThe IHSAA uses the IWCOA rankings as one data point when it sets the state dual team rankings. Separate 1A, 2A and 3A committees, with members from every Iowa district, make the final rankings.

How it works
- Pre-season rankings. The IWCOA ranking committee uses a point system to rate how much strength returns for teams that finished in last season’s top 24. These rankings are posted here so coaches can look at them before the first ranking in December.
- Statewide rankings. Every coach ranks the schools in their own class using a Google Form sent by email. There are three rounds (see the dates above). Use Trackwrestling’s My Extras for research, and be sure to sort by varsity.
- Ranking #3 sets regionals. The third ranking is used to decide all 24 teams in regional duals. The IHSAA also uses the rankings as a data point when choosing regional dual host sites.
- If weather cancels regionals. If regional duals and their make-up date are both lost to weather, the top 8 ranked teams in each class qualify for the state dual tournament.
- Review. The IWCOA ranking committee and the IHSAA review every ranking before it becomes official. Suspected manipulation of the rankings can get a school’s rankings thrown out.
