Coach & Official of the Year
How nominations work. Use the Google Form your district representative sends you. District finalists fill out the resume form and send it to their district representative, who forwards the winners to Eric Eckerman.
How winners are chosen
These are the Coach & Official of the Year procedures IWCOA adopted in 2022–23.
Official of the Year
- Officials in each district nominate IWCOA member officials to their district’s officials representative.
- Each district’s officials vote for their top 2 candidates.
- The officials chosen send an official resume to the IWCOA officials director.
- The officials committee (the IWCOA officials group and the officials advisory group) reviews the resumes and picks the Official of the Year. The group decides its own method for choosing.
Boys Coach of the Year
- Coaches in each district nominate IWCOA member coaches to their district’s coach representative.
- Each district’s coaches vote to pick one coach for each class. Every class gets to vote.
- The district then talks it over and votes on one wild card coach, from any class, to send along with its three class picks.
- The coaches chosen send an official resume to the IWCOA coach director.
- A committee reviews the resumes and picks the Coach of the Year: last year’s Coach of the Year, three retired coaches and one official.
- IWCOA head coaches also vote, and those results go to the committee to consider.
Girls Coach of the Year
- Coaches in each district nominate IWCOA member coaches to their district’s coach representative.
- Each district’s coaches vote to pick one coach for the district.
- The district may also talk it over and vote on one wild card coach to send along with its pick.
- The coaches chosen send an official resume to the IWCOA coach director.
- A committee of both the boys and girls IWCOA officers reviews the resumes and picks the Coach of the Year. Any officer who is up for the award steps out of the selection.
